Note on Marriage

Two male Alston cousins descended of Peter Alston b. 1796 in South Carolina do not match other Alstons. They have a 37 marker match with descendents of Richard Singletary.

It may be that one of the illegitimate children of David Donham alias Singletary was by Maria d/o John Elston Sr. of Woodbridge, NJ. Only her baptismal record makes her 3 years older than David. And Maria appears to never have married as she still uses her maiden name in 1717 as sponsor/godmother for a baptism.12

Text From Source: My 3rd g-grandfather was Peter B. Alston, b. 1796 in South Carolina per 1850 Federal Census. His two surviving sons were George Washington Alston and Cicero Franklin Alston.

We had one male who descended from each of these brothers take the Y DNA test and they matched each other, but for the most part the males they matched up to the 37 marker level has the surname Singletary, Dunham or Donham - overwhelming for many matches. In one of these matches a Singletary man had his nearest known ancestor listed as a Singletary with the additional "alias Dunham".
