Note on Marriage

Quote from Dr. Troha: "The book "Rockaway Borough: A History" has two genealogy charts for the Jackson family of Rockaway, which includes the progenitor of the Ledgewood Jacksons, John Jackson (7-3-1769) (5-1840) who married Chloe Hathaway on May 16, 1789.

Their 12 children are listed as:

1) Maria (10-6-1789) (10-18-1808)

2) Phebe (4-28-1792) m. (2-3-1810) Daniel Lamson (b 4-3-1788)

3) Charles (2-15-1794)

4) Prudence (12-3-1796)

5) Clarissa (1-12-1799) (9-12-1805)

6) Stephen (9-5-1801) (8-28-1802)

7) John (6-5-1803)

8) Elizabeth (8-5-1805)

9) David (9-1-1808)

10) Maria (7-23-1810)

11) Clarissa (5-13-1813)

12) Daniel N. (7-27-1815) (5-17-1885)"

So I began a study of the Lamson/Lampson family to try to discover a Jackson connection.

In that study I began with the record of J. Percy Crayon here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njmorris/rockawayrecords/lamson.htm. (This record is also on ancestry.com.)

Crayon states that "Daniel [Lamson], born Apr. 3, 1788, married Phebe JACKSON, July 3, 1816. She was daughter of John, the son of Benjamin JACKSON. This name is not on the JACKSON records however."

Now after researching the lines of Jackson, Lamson and Hathaway, and studying the History of Dover, NJ, I think I have this Benjamin pinpointed. ... It was only after I read some of the book "Dover Dates 1722-1922" that I began to realize that it was entirely possible for this Benjamin Jackson who had son John, who had dau Phoebe who married Daniel Lamson to be the same as Benjamin who was born in 1744, the son of James Jackson and Mary Fitz Randolph Thorne. This James (s/o James Jackson & Rebecca Hallett) had married Mary Fitz Randolph Thorne who was from NJ. This James had a brother John who left Long Island, and became the founder of Dover, Morris County, New Jersey.

As for the Benjamin b 1744, s/o James, we know nothing except the birth date. He falls out of historical records. But we know his father James was raised as a Quaker and that father James and mother Mary lived in NJ, his mother being sister to Hartshorne Fitz Randolph, the wealthy Quaker who had dealings with two of James's brothers:

Hartshorne bought John Jackson's forge and he witnessed Joseph Jackson's will.

So perhaps Phoebe who married Daniel Lamson, and who was born abt 1790 per census records, was the granddaughter of Benjamin b 1744. BTW, the Lamsons were also Quakers at least until later years.

2/10/2013 email from Jane Kimball's review of Morris County NJ town histories.

Comfort Coonrod married a Charles Jackson so I gathered all their descendants but couldn't fit Charles into my tree.

I also read in one of the histories that Charles Jackson was a relative of the Lamsons.

Phebe Jackson married a Daniel Lamson so I gathered all their descendants but still didn't know enough about her. Only that her father was John and his father was a Benjamin.

Jonathan Hathaway's grandson was Daniel Lamson who married Phebe Jackson

Jonathan Hathaway was brother to Capt. Silas Hathaway

Capt. Silas Hathaway's dau Chloe married John Jackson
