Joseph Singletary, Gen. V1, (Benjamin Ebenezer, Richard, Benjamin, Richard, Francis) born 1740-50, St Thomas & St. Denis, South Carolina, married Martha 2nd ? of Decatur County, Georgia, died after 1790, Claremont-Camden, South Carolina. See Happy Heritage – for names of children. His mother was Hannah Darby.

A Joseph Singletary was drafted into the Camden District Loyalist Militia in 1781. He then deserted. He may have served earlier as an American soldier.

These names are unknown in North Carolina except for John and Elizabeth; Joseph in Claremont - Camden, later Sumter, in1790 census with 2 males over 16. 3 males under 16, 1 female and 6 slaves. Beside him, Benjamin, 1 male over 16. 2 males under 2, all females gone in 1800.

There is a deed in Decatur County, Georgia in which Martha Singletary whose sister died in Sumter County, South Carolina leaves property to children with the exact names. Several are already dead, but she mentioned spouses. Decatur County Deeds, Book “B” p. 393, 394 dated August 5, 1830. She was listed in the county as a Revolutionary Widow in 1827. There were other Singletary families in the county in 1827 and more came from South Carolina in 1850. Joseph and Martha had the following children:

Jacob Singletary, born by 1774, married Elizabeth, left will dated October 17, 1817, Williamsburg, South Carolina.
John Singletary, married Patsy.
Hannah Singletary, married Hill.
Esther Singletary.
Sarah Singletary, born 1792, married Malaki Kelly.
