EDUCATED AT KINGSVILLE ACADEMY, O. IN EARLY WOMANHOOD SHE ASSOCIATED WITH AN ELDER BROTHER, NOW REV. F. F. THICKSTUN OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA., IN THE CONDUCT OF THE MEADVILLE ACADEMY, HE PRINCIPAL, SHE ASSISTANT. IN 1859 SHE CAME WITH HER BROTHER TO MINNESOTA AND TOOK CHARGE CATFIELD ACADEMY. SEVEN YEARS WAS PASTOR'S WIFE IN ROCHESTER, MN. SHE SHARED HER HUSBAND'S CARES AND LABORS IN CEDAR FALLS, INDIANOLA, BOONE, MARSHALLTOWN, MARION, WAUKON; AND IN BROOKINGS, SD.SIX YEARS. SHE ENJOYED THE LAST TWO YEARS OF RETIREMENT AND REST IN HER ALBIA HOME. HER TASTES BY NATURE AND CULTIVATION WERE LITERARY. WITH THE NEWEST BOOKS AND PERIODICALS, WITH LEISURE TO READ THEM, SHE WAS NEVER LONELY. SHE TOOK A LIVELY INTEREST IN THE PUBLIC QUESTIONS OF THE DAY, AND AT TIMES DISCUSSED THEM IN THE PUBLIC PRINTS WITH INTELLIGENCE AND ABILITY. SHE WAS DEVOTED TO HER CHILDREN AND WAS THEIR BEST TEACHER. SHE HAS LIVED HER LIFE, DONE HER WORK AND GONE TO HER REWARD. "BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD; YEA SAITH THE SPIRIT, FOR THEY DO REST FROM THEIR LABORS AND THEIR WORKS DO FOLLOW THEM." BURIAL SERVICES HELD AT THE RESIDENCE.
HER SON DARWIN AND SON-IN-LAW F. E. GITCHELL ARRIVED TOO LATE FOR HER BURIAL.
