Note on Husband: Ebenezer McCants DUNNAM

Ebenezer McCants (Eb) Dunnam was born in Alabama, as his parents made their way from South Carolina to Mississippi Territory, and finally to Greene County, Ms. He became a Methodist Protestant and was a member of the Mutual Rights Methodist Church, Avera, Greene County, Ms. He was elected by the Mississippi Annual Conference of Ministers and Delegates as an Elder an Ordained by the Methodist Protestant Conference September 12, 1886. He served the Mutual Rights and other Churches in the area.

 

Ebenezer homesteaded near Indian Hill, Greene County, Ms in a section on Bear Creek known as Bear Swamp.

 

He enlisted in the Confederate Cavalry Steed's Battalion Company A Mississippi Cavalry 17th Battalion, in Hancock County Ms March 27, 1863, by Capt. McInnis. His rank was Corporal. He was taken a prisoner at Franklin, Tenn. and taken to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Ill.

 

He died June 12, 1920, age 90 years, 8 months, and 22 days. His Funeral service was conducted by Rev A J Leggett, Pastor of Mutual Rights Church.
