F." in Newark News, says "John Dennis married Sarah Bloomfield Dec. 18th, 1668, and died May 5th, 1689, his wife having died May 5th, 1689, only three days before. Their children were: John 2d, b. Sept. 9th, 1669; Mary, b. Dec. 7th, 1671, d. in Occober, 1689; Sarah, b. July 18th, 1673, d. in October, 16S9; Elizabeth, b. Feb. 14th, 1674." Thomas Bloomfield's will, pr'oven Feb. 16th, 1678-9, mentions "Cousin Elizabeth, daughter of John Dennis, cousin John Dennis (2d?), and cousin Samnel Dennis." This Thomas Bloomfield was a brother to Mrs. John Dennis. She also had a brother, John, spoken of in Samuel Moore's will as his son-in-law, proven Nov. 10th, 1683, at Woodbridge. Dec. 20th, 1669, Gov. Carteret gave Samuel Moore a deed for land in Woodbridge, west of John Dennis', indicating that the latter was a landholder at that time, and therefore of age. John was probably the one called "Pappy" Dennis of Strawberry Hill, v/hose daughter, Elizabeth, is alleged to have married Vv'illiam Cole, of Glen Brook, whose son, James, married Elizabeth Frazee, and the latter's son, Dennis, married Catheritie Van Deusen, of Newburg, parents of Dr. Abraham CoIe, of Scotch Plains, N. J. (Newark News, M. S. D.) William Cole, bom in Scotland about 1648, came on the Caledonia with brothers and settled at Scotch Plains, whence the name (?) William Cole and Elizabeth Dennis had five children besides James; William m. Elizabeth Williamson, of Plainfield; Dennis, unmarried; Mary m. Daniel Haud, of Plainfield; Elizabeth m. John Merrill; Phoebe, unmarried. John Dennis was a witness to Robert Rogers' will of Woodbridge Sept. 1st, 1680. John Dennis, carpenter, deeded lands in Woodbridge in 1682. (N. J. Archives, vol. 21, p. 226.) John Dennis 2d, son of John and Sarah (Bloomfield) Dennis, m. Rachel Hull April 8th. 1604, by Rev. Samuel Hale. Children: Eunice, b. Dec. 29th, 1694; Joseph, b. May 8th, 1697; Rachel, b. May 14th, 1699; John 3d, b. Jan. 14th, 1700-1. -— Correspondent Newark News. The Joseph above named would, in daie of birth, tally whh the possible age of the Joseph Dennis, who later went to Bucks county, Pa., and from there to Sussex county, N. J., where he died and left a vvill of record in 1770.
