Jonathan Dennis, son of Robert, 1st, married Rachel, danghter of Samuel Moore, of Woodbridge. Children: Elizabeth, b. Jan. 8th. 1678; Mary, b. April 7th, 1682: Rachel, b. Oct. 30th 1683; Jonathan 2d, b. Jan, 29, 1685-6: Joseph. b. Feb, 18th, 1687-8; Charles and Sarah, twins, b. Jan. 4th, 1689-90; Hannah, b, Jan. 26. 1691-2. He deeded away lands in Woodbridge Feb. 25th, 1684, hence was of age at that date.

His will (vol. 2. p. 160, Records in Trenton, dated Aug. 9th, 1719 (no date to probate, but he is alleged to have died in 1719), gives to "Rachel, my wife," "to my son, Philip, when be becomes 21 years of age." "If he dies without issue, then to go to my son, Charles." Gives sons, Samuel and Charles, 20s. each. From this it appears that he had two additional children Philip and Samuel to the list first above given.

Sarah was d/o William Clowes of Alloways Creek, whose will made 6 Feb 1716/17, proved 13 Mar 1716/17, mentions daughter Sarah Dinnis, and grandchildren Rachel and Sarah Dinnis. Executor was daughter Mary with assistance of John Paine. Richard Smith was one of the witnesses. (N.J. Arch., 23:98.) Richard Smith was sole executor and principal heir of John Paine of Alloways Creek, Salem Co., whose will dated 20 Sept 1726, proved 18 Apr 1727, names Richard's daughters-in-law [step-daughters] Sarah and Rachel Dennis, both under 20. Wife Sarah, sole heiress and executrix of real and personal estate, with legacies to daughters Rachel and Sarah. Witnesses - Noah Wheaten, Peter Fitchrandolph, Jane Fitzrandolph, John Roberts, and Rebeckah Denis. Proved 16 Aug 1715. Sons -- John, the plantation (600 acres) called Amblebery that I live on, excepting what I shall hereafter dispose of; also 12 acres in Salem, Richard (not 21), the plantation (220 acres) that was formerly John Pain's, of Alloways Creek; also 150 acres of the plantation Ambleberry; and Merriman (not 21), the plantatIon (400 acres) that George Trenchard (lived of ?), deceased, situate in Alloways Creek. Daughters -- Mary, lot in Salem adjoining the house lot of Edward Test at Margate's lane (so-called); Grace, 4 acres in Salem, on the road to Alloways Creek Bridge, that Daniel Smith lives on. My daughters [step-daughters], Rachel and Sarah Dennis, shall share with the above named heirs in all the lands and profits due me from my right in Patomack, in the province of Virginia. Sons and above unmarried daughters shall share equally in the lands at Cohansey or elsewhere, depending between myself, John Wright and Clement Hall; also said daughters, Mary and Grace Smith, at 18 or marriage, to have £200. Charles Dennis was a witness to the will of his brother-in-law John Walling of Cohansey, Salem Co., N.J., and also took the inventory of the estate of John Walling. John's wiIl was made 1 Jun 1743, proved 25 Apr 1745. (N.J. Arch., 30:511).

Wife, Priscilla. Sons-in-law [step-eons], John Cresse (minor) and Joseph Ludlam. Son, Charles Dennis, to have plantation at Cohansey, Salem County, at the upper end of the place called Beacken's Neck, joining land of Nehemiah Craven and land of Jonathan Stathern.

Lucy was probably d/o Joseph Bacon of Greenwich Twp., Cumberland Co., who d. interstate 1758 and whose inventory was made by Philip Dennis and Charles Davis.

On 22 Mar 1758 bond was given to his widow, Margaret Bacon, as administrix, with Philip Dennis and Charles Davis both of Greenwich Twp., fellowbondsmen. (N.J. Arch., 32:19.)

Will of Margaret Bacon of Greenwich Twp., Cumberland Co., made 21 Jan 1769, proved 21 Mar 1769, does not name daughter Lucy. She probably already had her share. Witnesses were Prudence Dennis, Sarah Dennis PPlhuimlipp EDnecnrnusist Inventory of
Margaret'ss estate made 20 Mar 1769 by Benjamin Tyler and Philip Dennis. (N.J. Arch., 33:23.)
