"There are DAR lineage charts which state that the Mary Drake who married Charles Woolverton was the daughter of Thomas Drake. We feel that this could not be correct. First, Thomas Drake's wife, Dorothy VanKirk, was only 14 years old in 1745. Second, Monnete (First Settlers of Ye Plantation page 820) lists Mary Drake, daughter of Benjamin Drake, as the wife of Charles Wolverton. Third, we believe that Thomas Drake's daughter, Mary married Aaron Stout. The only possibility of the DAR charts being correct would be if Thomas Drake had a very young first marriage prior to his marriage to Dorothy VanKirk. There is no evidence of such a marriage that we have been able to locate."
