Note on Husband: Andrew J. DRAKE - shared note
Andrew's place of death unknown. He is buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Delaware, Iowa. Funeral memorial card printed in Leipsig, Ohio indicates that he was 73 yrs 9 mos, 22 days at the time of his death, giving a birth date of 8 April 1826. The cemetery record gives a birth date of 22 May 1826. Lucinda died in Buchanan County, Iowa and is also buried in the Oakland Cemetery. The state of Iowa denies having a death certificate for Andrew.
Andrew and Lucinda were in Adair County Missouri in the 1860census. They were in Manchester, Honey Creek Twp, Delaware County, Iowa by the 1870 census. Not found in the 1880 Iowa census, but daughter, Mary Ann was married in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa in 1874.(some reports indicate that Mary Ann and Madison Ferguson were married in Manchester, Delaware County.)
Several of Andrew's siblings were in Wisconsin, and some were still in Ohio at the time of his death.
Obituary published in the Manchester Press 8 February 1900:
"On Wednesday of last week took place the funeral of Mr. Drake in the Baptist church, Rev. Ostrich conducting the service. Mr. Drake was 73 years old and was sick but a short time. He was a member of the Baptist church and a very exemplary man. He was one of the early settlers, leaving his farm on the county line south of here a few years ago. At the time of the war he was living in Missouri. We have heard him tell of his experiences with the bushwhacker. (Cantrell--of "Cantrell's Raiders) As he was one of the home guards it was then, "hurry into the Army". It cost something to be a Union man in border states, where every home was a citadel and every dooryard a battlefield. The county has lost a patriot and the community a good neighbor. He leaves a wife and a family of grown up children."
Note on Wife: Lucinda CLARK - shared note
According to family records in the possession of Peggy Osborne in Adair County, Missouri, Lucinda Clark-Drake's birth date was 11 December 1834. This date is confirmed in Lucinda's death certificate. The tombstone date of 19 Dec 1834 is incorrect. She is buried in Row 13, plot 72.
Obituary published in the Manchester Press November 6, 1902:
"The death of Mrs. Lucinda Drake occurred at the home of her son, Frank Drake, Thursday morning. She sustained a stroke of paralysis a few months ago which was the remote cause of her death. The family had been expecting the end for some time. The funeral was held from the house today at 9 o'clock a.m. and the burial was at Manchester Cemetery."
